In the latter half of the 20th century, European puppetry changed its trend drastically.
From animism to humanism, it deepened its interpretation of "the performing art
by puppets and puppeteers" with varieties of expressive styles.

Why do you perform with a puppet?
What motivates a person to perform and express?

When you intend to create a show in search of a new relationship between puppets (objects)
and people, you will be questioned: Why do you want a puppet here?
Do you really need them?

In quest of an answer to those questions, this Project started in Tokyo, Japan,
with a plan to invite Mr. Petr MATASEK of Theatre DRAK, Czech, to have
a series of workshops in Theatre X (cai) where we would make
the best use of its space in full, aiming at a new creation that would give us an answer.
With Czech artist Mr. MATASEK, who provoked the changes in the art of puppetry,
our creative challenge has started with works by Kenji MIYAZAWA, Japanese writer,
as an outbreak of our creative fire.

This is a creation of the total performing art, with artists in the art of puppetry
and in other fields of art, as well technical creators of sound, lights and others.
The projects is open to artists and creators in any field, who are interested
in the relationship between objects and people.

The art the Project aim at is called NINGYO-ENGEKI as a Japanese translation to
Alternative & Puppet Theatre.
The art of puppetry that acquired humanism will take in animism once again,
and it will show an unique and independent form of expression.
This is the motivated Project to be followed by Alternative & Puppet Theare productions
in the 21st century.
